The Men’s Cooking class has been a popular spring event at the NC Cooperative Extension of Polk County for over 30 years. The program has won numerous honors including state and national Extension Program Awards.

This six-week course offers a fun and friendly way for any man to learn basic skills, whether cooking is a new responsibility or a new interest. Men take the course for a variety of reasons – personal interest, increased cooking responsibilities due to loss of or disability of a spouse, or a health issue that can be benefited by a specific diet.

Whatever the reason for signing up, participants learn basic cooking skills, have fun, and enjoy fellowship with class members. Laughter is a key ingredient used in each class.

The 2020 Men’s Cooking Class begins Tuesday, March 3. Weekly classes begin at 9:00 a.m. and end after lunch. Each class includes instruction, hands-on practice, and a delicious lunch prepared by class members.

The course also covers topics such as meal planning, buying and storing food, healthy eating, shopping on a budget, and food safety. This year, there will be a special focus on “cooking with gadgets.” Participants will have the opportunity to explore cooking with popular kitchen tools such as the Instant Pot, air fryer, panini maker and even a smoker!

Jimmi Buell, Extension Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences, will be the instructor for the class. Registration is required. Class size is limited, so sign up soon. For more information, or to register, call the Polk County Extension Center at 828-894-8218.
