Green Creek Fire Chief Jeremy Gregg said while fire units were responding, Polk County Dispatch was advised that two people were injured at the scene so Polk County EMS was dispatched as well.

Gregg said both victims were taken by Polk County EMS to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. The victims are now at the Augusta Burn Center in Georgia.

Gregg said the residence was damaged heavily by fire. The Columbus Fire Department, a fire department from Rutherford County, Mill Spring Fire Department, Cooley Springs Fire Department, Spartanburg EMS and the Polk County Rescue Squad assisted Green Creek.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Polk County Fire Marshal.

There is a GoFundMe page set up for the Gene Barnett family.

“Gene and his family lost everything in a house fire on November 23,” states the page. “His daughter and wife are both in the Augusta Burn Center.”

Friends are trying to raise money for expenses while the family is in Augusta as well as replace their belongings.

People can find the fundraiser either through Facebook or gofundme.com by searching “Gene Barnett Family.”
