Last week the Polk County Historical Association sponsored its 2nd annual Night At The Museum event. One of the characters that came to life was Corporal Adolphus Thompson (played by Alan Leonard) of Company K, 16th North Carolina Infantry. Thompson was from “the head” of Holbert’s Cove in Polk County. The infantryman died of disease at Valley Mountain, Virginia on September 15, 1861, during the Civil War.

Nearly 100 of your fellow citizens attended the special event held inside the Polk County History Museum at 60 Walker Street in Columbus. (caption for image)
