The mystique of the North Carolina mountains drew Jenn Tutor, AAUW’s November 25 speaker, from her hometown of Greenville, SC to Asheville. The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Tryon Presbyterian Church, 430 Harmon Field Road in Tryon.
In Asheville, Tutor earned a degree in Environmental Studies with a concentration in sustainable forestry from Warren Wilson College in 2011.
While in college, Tutor worked on the forestry crew where she learned such practical skills as wielding a chainsaw and growing shiitake mushrooms.
Tutor’s interest in land management and conservation led her to serve two fulfilling terms as an AmeriCorps Project Conserve Land Protection Associate with Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy (CMLC). After her terms with AmeriCorps, Tutor took a position in administration and fundraising with CMLC.
Now, as Conserving Carolina’s Donor Relations Manager, Tutor works with business sponsors and runs Conserving Carolina’s fundraising events. Conserving Carolina was formed by the merger of CMLC and The Pacolet Area Conservancy in 2017.
Tutor says she is inspired daily by the devoted and passionate Conserving Carolina members, volunteers and donors who make conservation of our beautiful mountains, forests and farms possible.
Tutor has found that philanthropy is her “true calling.”
