Woodland Park clean up planned for next week

The Tryon Parks Committee has scheduled a second brush clean up for the Carolina Drive entrance to Woodland Park. On Wednesday, November 6, there is a need for volunteers to aid in removing much of the overgrowth. Their effort will begin at 9:00 a.m. and finish around 11:00 a.m.
Interested residents are encouraged to wear long pants, gloves and to bring some sort of cutting tools, pruners, loppers or a saw. The activity will begin next to the parking lot to the side of the Tryon IGA that adjoins Woodland Park.
Much of the problem at Woodland Park is the excessive growth from several exotic plant species such as privet, wisteria, English ivy and kudzu. Plans are to remove as many invasive plants as practical.
In September a group of hard working volunteers made a huge dent in the excessive growth around the park’s entrance. In this November outing, the goal is to double the area cleared.
Volunteers should meet at the back of the IGA parking lot.
