NCACC ranks Polk 15th highest with 58 percent voter turnout

POLK COUNTY—Polk County had one of the highest voter turnouts in the state during the 2018 election, according to data from the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners. 

The NCACC recently released its 2019 Map Book, which is information about all 100 counties for the year.

Polk County ranked the 15th highest in the state for the 2018 election with a 58 percent voter turnout. 

Chatham County had the highest voter turnout at 67 percent, followed by Yancey County at 66 percent. 

Buncombe County was the only nearby county that had a higher voter turnout than Polk County. Buncombe County ranked 7th highest in the state with a voter turnout of 60 percent. 

Henderson County ranked 19th highest in the state at 57 percent, while Rutherford County 68th highest at a 51 percent voter turnout. 

The NCACC releases a Map Book every year with data and maps that highlight demographic, economic, health and educational information from the state’s 100 counties. 

The data indicators were selected based on research at the county level, recommendations from county officials and staff and timely policy issues.

This year’s election is for the municipalities, and will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Early voting in Polk County begins this Wednesday, Oct. 16.
