A-OK offers affordable performance for kids and community

Tryon Fine Arts Center (TFAC) and Tryon Concert Association (TCA) are working together to bring affordable, educational concerts to the Foothills. Now its third year, Arts Outreach for Kids (A-OK) will present four performances for students, teachers and community members.

The series kicks off on Thursday, October 3 with a shadow dance performance from Catapult. Catapult wowed national audiences as finalists on America’s Got Talent and have toured the world with their unique shadow dance performances. Now, the New York-based troupe comes to Tryon Fine Arts Center. Catapult’s dancers work behind a screen to create shadow silhouettes of shapes from the world around us in an imaginative combination of dance, storytelling, and sculpture.

The one-hour performances start at 10:00 a.m., perfect for homeschoolers and seniors who are unable to attend late night performances. Area school districts are invited to organize field trips to the performances.

The season continues with the comedic string quartet MozART Comes to Town on November 1, young artists on the rise Omer String Quartet on February 7, and exciting beats from the Spartanburg Percussion Ensemble on March 13.

“We’ve kept tickets extremely affordable for this series, and even offer a discounted season ticket for all four shows,” said TFAC Executive Director Marianne Carruth. “A-OK concerts are helping build the next generation of arts patrons.”

Tickets and additional details are available by calling TFAC at 828-859-8322 or visiting www.tryonarts.org/aok.

A-OK is an Arts in Education program TFAC, presented in partnership with TCA. A nonprofit organization, TFAC is the creative driving force for performances, exhibits, arts education and community partnerships in the Foothills. TFAC is a member of the Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
