SGT. RODERICK L. WILKINS

INMAN, SC — SGT Roderick Lynn Wilkins, U.S. Army, 35, of Inman, SC passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 in the Netherlands while serving on active duty.  

 

Born in Spartanburg, SC and grew up in Pea Ridge, NC, Sgt. Wilkins was the son of Joseph Simpson of Rutherfordton, NC and the late Libby Wilkins Simpson.

Sgt. Wilkins graduated Polk County High School in 2002 and then went on to serve our country and joined the US Army in March 2003.  Sgt. Wilkins has served four tours to include Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan. 

 

To know Roderick was to know a smile that could light up the entire room.  Sgt. Wilkins traveled the world and touched many lives with his vibrant personality.  He would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation and ask for nothing in return.  The love he had for his daughters is beyond compare and he will continue to live in their hearts for eternity.

 

In addition to his father, Sgt. Wilkins is survived by his wife, Sherry Waters; two daughters, Shalyn and Aslyn Wilkins of the home; three brothers, Mond Simpson and Chris Wilkins of Pea Ridge NC, and Travis (Mindy) Simpson of Fayetteville, NC.

  

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Eleanor Miller officiating.

 

Full military honor’s will be conducted by the U.S. Army from Fort Jackson.
