Eldonna (Donna) P. Butler

Columbus, NC—Eldonna (Donna) P. Butler, 71, formerly of Columbus, NC passed away Sunday evening, July 14, 2019 at Community Hospice Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring and Palliative Care of Jacksonville, FL.

Donna, the daughter of the late Bertus H. and Eleanor (Kuhlmeier) Plucker, was born in Lennox, SD.  She attended grade school in a one room school house and graduated from Lennox High School. At the age of 18 she enlisted in the armed forces serving as a Yeoman in the United States Navy at Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL.  She was a resident of Columbus, NC for 42 years and served as the Town Clerk for the Town of Columbus until her retirement in 2012. She was a member of Columbus Presbyterian church for many years where she was a Deacon and later became a member of the Columbus United Methodist church.  During her retirement she volunteered at Thermal Belt Outreach.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her husband Larry K. Butler and her brother Jim Plucker.

Surviving is her daughter Laura Bohanon (Joseph) of Jacksonville, FL; siblings:  Bernice Hammerstrom and Delores VanBockern both of Sioux Falls, Stanley (Marlene) Plucker, of Tea, SD, Debra (Paul) Hartz, Luverne, MN; and Penny (Alan) Stratmeyer, Tea, SD and other relatives, extended family and friends.

A graveside Celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 am, on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC with Rev. Melinda McDonald officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
