Shirley Barth Finnie, 93, a long-time resident of Columbus, North Carolina, died February 23, 2019, at Otterbein Senior Living Community in Lebanon, Ohio.

Preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Walter and Theresa Barth; sister, Dorothy Leupold. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Finnie of Batavia, Ohio and Joyce Guelich of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Scott Calvert (Angela), Kimberly Simon (Jeff) and Steven Calvert (Stephanie) of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, Katie and Chris Calvert, and a niece, Cynthia Vaughan, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania. 

 

Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Shirley was a graduate of Frankford High School and Drexel Institute. She was employed by Rohm & Haas in Philadelphia and, following her marriage to her husband, George, later resided in Haddonfield, New Jersey; Bucks County, Pennsylvania and Naples, Florida before moving to Columbus, North Carolina in 1979. While living in Bucks County, she was employed by Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture. She was an active volunteer in numerous church and community activities throughout the years and was employed by Tryon Presbyterian Church and the Polk County School System while living in North Carolina.   

 

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Tryon Presbyterian Church in Tryon, NC, where Shirley and her husband, George, were long-time members.
