Rabies clinic Saturday

Polk County Animal Control hosting event at Sunny View Fire Department 

SUNNY VIEW—The Polk County Animal Control is sponsoring a rabies clinic this Saturday.  

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sunny View Fire Department, located at 5865 Highway 9 N., Mill Spring. The phone number for more information is 828-625-9973.

Dr. Beverly Hargus, DVM will be giving the vaccinations, which include for dogs, cats, ferrets and equines.  

The cost for rabies is $10, including for equines and $20 for DA2PP and FVRCP.  

In order to get a three-year vaccine, owners must have proof of current rabies vaccine.  

The Foothills Humane Society will also offer low cost spay and neuter vouchers. The spay and neuter information hotline is 828-863-4445.  

Microchips are $10.  

North Carolina requires that all dogs, cats and ferrets be kept vaccinated against rabies. Although not required by law, it is recommended that horses also be kept current on rabies vaccines.  

Polk County also has an ordinance about rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats as well as not wearing tags and certification. The county’s ordinance includes a $100 fine for not having a rabies vaccination for dogs and cats and a $100 fine for not wearing the rabies vaccination tag or certification.  

No credit or debit cards on Saturday. Cash only will be accepted.
