Downtown Columbus needs planning and development

To the editor:
I am writing to indicate my displeasure with the new businesses near the Columbus Baptist church.
Did we need a third auto supply store? With St. Luke’s a mile down the road, did we need an urgent care facility? I have lived in Polk County 14 years. Has no one in their infinite wisdom considered we need a decent grocery store? Ingles in Lake Lure or Landrum, probably get great business from Polk County residents. Tryon IGA is 40 minutes drive for me. The Food Lion is okay at best. Talking to the Harris Teeter corporate people would be a wonderful addition. We have a nice piece of land across from the Hatch plant that would be a great location.
All round us, Landrum, Tryon, Saluda, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and Hendersonville do so much to attract folks to their downtown area. Columbus is the county seat and the best it offers is mold covered brick buildings and a tailgate market on Saturdays April to October. Businesses come and go, but mostly go somewhere else.
Thank you for hearing me out.
