Trade Avenue will be closed Saturday to host car show
LANDRUM—On Saturday, April 20, Trade Avenue in Landrum will be closed to host the annual Dark Corner Classic Car Show. This will be the fourth time that Landrum has hosted the Dark Corner Classic. The event has grown in size each year in terms of entries and visitors.
Representatives from the Dark Corner Classic Committee expect the event to be bigger than previous years.
“We don’t have an exact count, (number of cars that will be in attendance); we did 50 pre-registers and that is already full. We had 238 cars last year and are expecting 250 this year,” a representative said. “This is our fourth year. We had 179 (cars entered) the first year, 211 the second year and 238 last year. We have had drivers from Kentucky and Georgia drive to be a part of the show.”
There will be two barbecue vendors at the event, Flat Iron and Landrum Rescue 11. There will also be snow cones and funnel cakes available. There will also be a DJ playing music during the show and making announcements.
“We had roughly 20 sponsors last year and were able to raise about $4,000 after expenses for the Landrum Youth Association and Operation Hope,” representatives said. “It’s a really big event and brought in around 2,000 people last year.”
The money raised by the Dark Corner Classic Car Show is donated to Operation Hope and the Landrum Youth Association. The event has had a warm welcome by the public and has drawn in quite a few out of town visitors in previous years.
“There will be door prize drawings before the trophy presentation. Trophies will be awarded for best paint, best interiors, best motor, and best of show,” representatives said. “In addition, trophies will be awarded for the vehicles in the top 100. Each of the event sponsors gets to pick the car or truck of their choice to be in the top 100.”
The event is free and open to the public. For more information on the event visit, www.facebook.com/darkcornerclassic/.
