Polk Central fifth graders spent part of March 12 on a Muddy Sneakers Learning Expedition to Walnut Creek Preserve in Sunny View. 

While on the trip students enjoyed trying to lift a load, with and without a pulley, by studying the force of gravity and the power of simple machines. They also participated in that favorite childhood activity, building boats to travel downstream.
