Janis (John) passed from this life peacefully on March 7, 2019 at the age of 91 after a prolonged illness. He leaves his loving wife Stephanie of Tryon, North Carolina, his two sons, Victor of Parker, Colorado and Andris (and wife Barbara Smith) of Beverly, Massachusetts and his brother Karlis of Augstkalne, Latvia.
John was born in Zaube, Latvia in 1927 and grew up on the family farm where they raised horses and livestock. He was forcibly conscripted in the German Army in 1944. He married Vera Ziverts, immigrated to Minnesota and raised Victor and Andris. John established a construction business that provided for the family and eventually allowed him to indulge in his passion for working with horses. John and Stephanie were married in 1977 and established Jonathan Stables in Chaska, Minnesota, a premiere hunter/jumper training and show facility. After 32 fruitful years, John and Stephanie retired to Tryon, North Carolina for well earned, relaxing retirement.
John had a zest for active life. He and Stephanie frequently hiked with their Jack Russell terriers in the North Carolina countryside. John was a skilled horseman and color member of the Long Lake Hounds. He loved fishing, hunting and the great outdoors.
