The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said on Feb. 24 the South Carolina Highway Patrol attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle along Highway 9 for a burnt out headlight. The driver refused to stop, so the trooper activated his lights and siren and another trooper joined in the pursuit. The chase progressed towards the North Carolina line in Polk County and involved the suspect firing a weapon at the troopers multiple times.

Andrey Denisovich Khorzhevskiey, 20, of 611 Broken Chimney Road, Inman, S.C. was arrested on Tuesday and charged by the highway patrol with two counts of attempted murder; possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime; failure to stop; driving under suspension, operating an uninsured vehicle and unlawful operation of an unsafe vehicle, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest was made on Tuesday after the Polk County Sheriff’s Office found Khorzhevskiey’s vehicle in a field in Polk County on Feb. 25. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office processed the vehicle and identified Khorzhevskiey from numerous latent fingerprints found in the vehicle.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said there was already an active warrant on Khorzhevskiey for receiving stolen goods in reference to an unrelated stolen vehicle. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office also charged Khorzhevskiey on the stolen goods warrant on Tuesday.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said Khorzhevskiey partially confessed to his involvement in the Feb. 24 incident with the state troopers and admitted to driving the vehicle, but said a female passenger was the shooter. After investigating, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office discovered that the female named was incarcerated in North Carolina on an unrelated charge at the time of the shooting, so charged Khorzhevskiey in the shooting.
