John Charles Janulis, (Ret) US Navy

Tryon, NC—John Charles Janulis, (Ret) US Navy, 78, of Tryon, NC passed away peacefully on March 1, 2019. 

He and his sister, Ione were born in Mokena, IL to John and Lorraine Janulis. He attended Carl Sandburg High School and was a retired Navy Chief.

JCJ served on the destroyer, USS Furse, the aircraft carrier, USS Wasp; and had been stationed at NavComSta in Asmara, Ethiopia and Naples, Italy as well as other duty stations. 

John was an avid fisherman, created wonderful woodwork, huge Duke fan and LOVED his White Sox (and Cubbies, too). 

John and his wife of 60 years, Dani, have three children, Katie (Dan) Villani of Inman, SC, Kellie (Roy) Hibbard of Statesville, NC and John (Lucia) of Naples, Italy.  He and Dani have 7 grandchildren, Joey, Charlie and Molly Villani, Marie and Roy Hibbard, Bobby and Natalie Janulis. They have two great grandchildren, Rosemary Capri Cartner and Olivia Rae Hibbard. His brother in law, Ray O’ Brien, sister in law, Margot (Bill) Holcomb and many wonderful nieces and nephews will also miss him. 

A private service will be held.  Memorials may be made in John’s name to the Foothills Humane Society, P.O. Box 126, Tryon, NC 28782.
