To strengthen its efforts to support local business and economic development, Polk County Local Government recently hired Lindsey McGaha as the county’s new Senior Business Specialist. 

McGaha previously practiced law in Hendersonville, N.C., and in federal court in South Carolina. In her new position with Polk County, she is working directly with County Manager Marche Pittman to foster local business and boost economic development efforts. 

In addition to working with the Economic & Tourism Development Commission, existing local businesses and companies considering coming to Polk County, McGaha is focusing on cultivating jobs that do not require four-year degrees. 

“We definitely are trying to let current high school students know, too, that there are work options here that don’t involve having a four-year degree,” McGaha. “We want to grow trade and other work opportunities so that more young people have the option of staying here in Polk County.” 

A native of Henderson County, McGaha has family ties to Polk County and says she always has loved the way of life, scenery and sense of community here. 

McGaha said she is excited about serving as a resource for business owners and bringing a fresh perspective to economic development in Polk County. 

“I want business owners here to know that I am friendly and approachable,” she said. “I want them trust me to help them and feel comfortable coming to talk with me about any issues or concerns they may have.”
