Brevard’s Berry good night helps sink Polk girls

Too often Thursday, Brevard’s offense was Berry, Berry good.
Tristen Berry scored 25 points and Emma Berry added 11 to lead Brevard to a 61-40 win over Polk County in nonconference girls basketball action at Polk.
Tristan Berry poured in 18 points in the first half, hitting four 3-pointers as Brevard (7-4) built a 29-18 halftime lead. Her eight straight points at the end of the first period and start of the second period keyed an 11-2 run that gave the Devils a 22-10 advantage, and Berry and Michelle Lopez hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the second period after the Wolverines fought back to within six points.
Polk County (6-7) cut the lead back to single digits late in the third period on a Mariah Overholt 3-pointer, but Cassidee Cali ended the quarter with a 3-pointer to make it 41-29. Lynn Berry then took over, scoring all 11 of her points in the fourth quarter to prevent the Wolverines from making a comeback.
Brevard hit nine 3-pointers in the win.
Olivia Overholt led Polk County with 15 points and had six rebounds, with Marissa Twitty adding eight points. Kristen Hall had six points and seven rebounds, with Ansley Lynch scoring four points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Mariah Overholt finished with three points, with Sara Muse and Tori Thompson each scoring two.
Polk County was back at home Friday, hosting Madison in Western Highlands Conference action.
