Jan. 28 AAUW meeting to feature discussion on STEM books for girls

Jen Pace Dickenson will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the American Association of University Women in Tryon.
The program will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the Tryon Presbyterian Church community room located on Harmon Field Road. The public is invited to attend.
Dickenson will give a talk on children’s books that encourage STEM concepts for girls. Titles discussed will include “Lab Girl;” “Ada Twist, Scientist;” and “The Fourteenth Goldfish.”
Dickenson is a Saluda native who graduated from Polk County High School. She received her master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and is currently the youth services librarian for Polk County Public Libraries.
She also serves on the executive committee and board of directors for Partnership for Children of the Foothills and as director of membership for the North Carolina Library Association’s Youth Services Section executive committee. Dickenson enjoys reading, hiking and traveling and lives in Hendersonville with her husband, stepdaughter and four cats.
The Tryon Chapter of AAUW meets at 1:30 p.m. every fourth Monday, September through April, at Tryon Presbyterian Church on Harmon Field Road.
