Polk varsity girls build early lead, roll to victory

Polk County built a 17-point halftime lead and cruised to a 44-12 win Thursday over Piedmont Community Charter in girls basketball play in Gastonia.
Olivia Overholt scored 13 points as the Wolverines improved to 6-5. Piedmont Charter dropped to 1-10.
Polk County led 16-2 after the first period and 29-8 at halftime.
Marissa Twitty added nine points, with Sara Muse and Kristen Hall each scoring four. Mariah Overholt had three points while Emmie McDowell had five assists and two points.
Makayla Staley also scored two points while Jen Guerrero added a point for the Wolverines, who hosted Mitchell on Friday in a Western Highlands Conference battle.
