Conserving Carolina will host a free lecture titled “Landslides in WNC — where and why, and what can we do,” presented by licensed geologist Jennifer Bauer, of Appalachian Landslide Consultants PLLC, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Anne Elizabeth Suratt Nature Center at Walnut Creek Preserve.

This presentation will cover general information about landslides in western North Carolina, the types of landslides most prevalent, where they occur and what triggers them. It will illustrate what is known about landslides through examples, stories and photographs.

Attendees will come away with a better understanding of how landslides affect the region and how residents can protect themselves from these natural and human-induced hazards, event organizers said.
