Polk volleyball leader named WNC’s top coach; six players earn All-WNC spots

Polk County volleyball coach Molly Hill has been named the All-Western North Carolina Coach of the Year by the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Hill led the Wolverines to the 1A state championship match, capping a 20-9 season in which Polk County won the Western Highlands Conference title and 1A West Region title. The win over East Surry in the regional final was Hill’s 100th in five seasons at Polk.

Polk County senior Ansley Lynch was named to the All-WNC team. Lynch led all North Carolina 1A players with 665 digs, finishing her career with 1,045 digs. She also had 27 assists and 22 kills.

Outside hitter Grace Lauer was named to the All-WNC second team. Lauer had a team-high 326 kills, adding 74 blocks, 84 digs and 12 aces.

Four other Wolverines Sydney Waldman, Kristen Hall, Mireya Roman and Marilyn Castillo earned All-WNC honorable mention.
