Steps to HOPE’s holiday brunch was held at the Green River Plantation in Rutherfordton on Dec. 6.

More than 50 volunteers received certificates of appreciation for their contributions during the July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018, fiscal year.

Of those volunteers, five women received honorable mention for working the greatest number of hours at Second Chance Thrift Store. They were Bernardine Monroe, with 1,335.5 hours; Sally McPherson, with 653.5 hours; Marcie Mack, with 393 hours; Kristina Provines, with 261 hours; and Rosalind Knight, with 233.5 hours.

Other volunteers who help with special events, such as The Hope Golf Classic and the Purple Party Domestic Violence Awareness Walk, and those who offer their services in other ways were also recognized and celebrated.

Steps to HOPE officials offer their deepest gratitude to those who gives their time, talent and efforts to the agency and/or Second Chance Thrift Store in any way. The organization’s mission of preventing domestic violence and sexual assault in the local community and providing shelter and treatment to survivors and their children is made possible in large part by the people who volunteer, officials said.

Volunteer opportunities are always available at Steps to HOPE and at Second Chance Thrift Store. Those interested may call Jessica Cashwell at 828-894-2340 for more information.
