Jeffrey Smith

Jeffrey Smith, 57, of Mill Spring, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at his home.

Born in Asheville, North Carolina, he was the son of Jackson Smith, of Asheville, and the late Carolyn Sensing Smith, who passed away in 2008.

Jeff moved to Mill Spring in 1971, coming from Mills River. He was a graduate of Polk Central High School, class of 1980. He played football during high school.

For many years, he worked for Renfrow Brothers Construction in Spartanburg, South Carolina, as a pipefitter.  When not working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and all outside sports, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. 

Jeff was a member of Lynn First Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, Jeff was preceded in death by a brother, Kevin Smith, who passed away in 2016.

Surviving in addition to his father includes one brother, Randy Kight (Charlene) of Hilliard, Florida; two sisters, Pamela Staples (Hugh) of Ridgeway, South Carolina, and Beth Lucas (Ethan) of Goode, Virginia. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Jill, Hannah, Caleb (Kaila), Brock, Cassidy, Kendall and Bristol; and great-nieces and nephews, Brandt, Journey, Carissa, Londynn, Isla and Ivy. 

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11-11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, North Carolina.

A funeral will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, with the Rev. Jimmie Owens and the Rev. John Andrews officiating. 

Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, North Carolina.
