Organizers seeking volunteers for annual Christmas Day Shepherd’s Feast

Published 8:00 am Saturday, November 17, 2018

The Christmas Day Shepherd’s Feast will once again be at Polk County Middle School’s cafeteria on Christmas Day from 1-4 p.m.

Everyone is invited to come and share a Christmas dinner served family style, complete with turkey and all of the trimmings.

This event would not be possible without the help of many volunteers. Even those who cannot attend on Christmas Day can find ways to help.

Organizers need gifts for children, from newborns to 12 years old. Donors are asked to wrap the gifts if possible, and put a tag on the gift indicating if it is for a boy or a girl and the appropriate age range.

Gifts can be dropped off at the middle school on from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec 23, or Christmas morning from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Gifts may also be brought wrapped when volunteers come to help at 12:30 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Organizers ask for volunteers to bring homemade cakes, cookies or pies to the middle school on Christmas morning between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Those who are interested in bringing a dessert are asked to contact Carlann Scherping at cscherping@gmail.com or at 828-894-3253.

Volunteers are also needed on preparation day, which will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, to work in the kitchen, wrap gifts, wash dishes and set tables.

Volunteers are needed from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Christmas Day to serve as hosts at the tables, work in the kitchen and be on hand to welcome guests.  Help will also be needed to clean up from 3-5 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Those interested in helping on Dec. 23 or Christmas Day may contact Scherping.
