Polk County Schools has been awarded a grant of $31,000 by the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Henderson County for its carpentry and construction program at Polk County High School.

The grant will be used to build affordable homes, said Keith Rimer, the carpentry and construction teacher at Polk County High School.

Students will construct shells that are 24-by-40 feet (960 square foot homes) on-site at PCHS for members of the Polk County community to purchase. The carpentry and construction classes at PCHS have built and sold six such houses over the past three years.

The grant from the Community Foundation of Henderson County will give PCHS additional resources to expand opportunities for Career and Technical Education students to support community members with an affordable home program.

Community Foundation of Henderson County supports charitable programs in the greater Henderson County area. Founded in 1982, the Community Foundation administers over 500 funds with assets of over $100 million.
