Two Landrum high school athletes earn world powerlifting records

Landrum High School students Skylar Stegall and Chris Easler made a trip across the country to compete against the world’s strongest powerlifters in the IPL World Powerlifting Championship.

The four-day championship was held at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, with over 500 competitors vying for a world title.

Stegall won the 60kg Junior 15-19 age group world championship. She now has the state record for the bench press with a 126-pound effort. She also holds the national and world record for the squat (265 pounds), deadlift (260 pounds) and a total of 634 pounds.

Easler was the first male in school history to compete at the IPL World Championships and earned three world records for his successful 407-pound squat, 440-pound deadlift and a total of 1,019 pounds. He also holds the American and state record in the bench press with 197 pounds.
