Math is always important when it comes to money, which a local bank employee reminded Saluda Elementary fifth-graders during a recent visit.

Kristi Pace, of Bank of America, visited Ginger Rackley’s fifth-grade class to present a lesson called “Banking Literacy.”

Pace shared interesting facts about money with the students, such as the fact that bills are made from cotton and linen. She also talked about how bankers use math every day when working with money.

Students enjoyed learning new facts from Pace.

“I can’t believe that $62 million in coins is thrown away by people each year,” said Cooper Rhodes.

“It was interesting why the date on the new $100 bill is 2009, but they didn’t come out with the new bill until 2011,” said Bailey Staton.
