Moving to Tryon full time in 2012 with her husband, David, she joined the Thermal Belt Friendship Council. Serving on their board for one year as its secretary, she also developed and organized the creative arts competitions for its annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

Fischer was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, and raised in the Presbyterian religion. Moving to Tryon three years ago, he currently works part time at Landrum Hardware since one of his hobbies is handyman work.

After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in music education, Fischer pursued an acting career, initially in New York City, then in Rome, where she acted with two English-speaking theatres. Returning to NYC, she began a career in advertising and marketing.

Moving to Tryon in 2015 with her husband, Nick, she served as executive director of Tryon Arts and Crafts School before retiring this past June. In her leisure time, Cathy has always pursued a love of music and theater, performing in summer stock and Off & Off Broadway, and with the Riverside Choral Society at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in NYC and, locally, with the Tryon Community Chorus, Hendersonville Community Theatre and Tryon Little Theater.

Boyd is a retired school psychologist and special education teacher from Illinois. Shortly after moving to Tryon with her husband, Larry, in December 2006, she joined the TBUUF and has served on the board as secretary or treasurer for approximately 10 years. She has also served on the boards of the Foothills Humane Society and the Tryon branch of the American Association of University Women.

She is currently a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters, and she continues to volunteer at the Humane Society.

The new TBUUF Board would like to thank the outgoing members: Phil Nungesser, who served as president for three years, and Nan Covert and Ninalee Kinney for their service as co-president and vice-president. They would also like to recognize Sheila Nungesser for her work on the membership committee.
