Polk County opened defense of its Western Highlands Conference girls tennis championship Thursday with an 8-1 victory at Avery.

The Wolverines (5-4, 1-0) swept singles play to secure the win.

“We didn’t really play a fabulous match as a whole, but definitely played good enough to get the job done,” said Polk County head coach Richard Davis. “Hopefully, we will continue to improve as we make our way through the conference schedule.”
