Commissioner chair should point blame for state swine farm lawsuits elsewhere

In the Bulletin’s story about  County Commissioner Chair Jake Johnson’s apparent desire to open up Polk County to large-scale swine farming, there are some statements that have no specific reference as to their maker — or when.

There is, however, an incomplete statement that cannot be allowed to stand.

Mr. Johnson remarks that it is shameful of the governor to fail to offer relief of any kind to state farmers by vetoing a bill.

He fails to note, however, that Republicans in the General Assembly have a veto-proof majority, but failed to override the veto, as they have done so often in the past.

Seems to me the Republicans would share in the shame that Mr. Johnson is so willing to heap on politicians.

In the meantime, residents — and voters — of Polk County would be well advised to familiarize themselves with all the facts before deciding they might want large-scale swine farms, owned by residents of a foreign country, to wreak the havoc here that they have done elsewhere.
