Potter paces Polk County runners at WNC Cross Country Festival

Caleb Potter raced to a seventh-place finish Saturday to lead Polk County’s efforts at the Western North Carolina Cross Country Festival at Jackson Park in Hendersonville.

Potter completed the course in a time of 17:32.60 as the Wolverines placed 24th in the 33-team Invitational Boys field. T.L. Hanna won the division, one of three offered at the season-opening meet. More than 1,400 runners from three states competed in the three divisions.

Freshman Mark Teague finished in 20:57.70 and fellow freshman Bryce Thompson finished in 22:09.80 for the Wolverines.

The Polk girls took 16th in the 22-team Invitational field, led by freshman Olivia Overholt, who finished in 22:41.70. Sophomore Caelan Gaul posted a time of 24:57.70 and Amelia Nespeca finished in 27:20.30 for the Wolverines.

Both Polk County teams are scheduled to compete next on Sept. 11, racing in the Shelby Invitational.
