Lewis Cantrell

Donald “Lewis” Cantrell, 85, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at Hospice at Wendover.   

A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late William J.W. and Elsie Hinsdale Cantrell. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Shelby, where he was an avid choir member and also served as Sunday School Secretary.  Lewis was co-owner of Cantrell-Melton Barber Shop for 60 years, and worked weekends at Cantrell’s Barber Shop in Polk County. 

He served in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Doris Edwards Cantrell; and brother, William Eugene Cantrell.

He is survived by his sons, Donald Bryan Cantrell and wife Marilyn of Shelby, and Jeffrey Todd Cantrell and wife Diane of Morganton; brother, David C. Cantrell and wife Linda; sister, Rebecca C. Henderson, both of Green Creek; grandchildren, Holly Cantrell, Lacey Cantrell Tindall and husband Lane of Shelby, Mandy Cantrell Huffman and husband Devan of Pineville, Tiffany Paige Cantrell and Bailey Elizabeth Cantrell, both of Shelby, and Stephanie Elizabeth Mitchell of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Morgan Rizzo of Shelby, and Degan, Faith and Destiny Huffman of Pineville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at First Baptist Church Webb Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, in the church parlor. The Rev. Perry Holleman will officiate.

Burial will follow in Green Creek First Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbus, North Carolina.
