Charles William Flynn

Charles William Flynn, 85, of Forest City, passed away, Saturday morning, Aug. 11, 2018, at the Hospice House in Forest City.

Born in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late William B. Flynn and Alice Barnette Flynn. Mr. Flynn moved to Tryon at a young age and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired from Hatch Mill after more than 30 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and making walking sticks.

Mr. Flynn was a member Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Forest City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Burrell Flynn, who passed away in 1991; and two brothers, Frank Flynn and Paul Flynn.

Surviving is his loving wife of 17 years, Dianne Marshall Flynn; two daughters, Debbie Davis (Keith) of Green Creek and Pam Painter (Robert) of Tryon; one stepson, Jeff Epley (Rebecca) of New Braunsfels, Texas; one step-daughter, Jill Hudson (Tim) of Greer; three grandchildren, Charles Nelson Painter (Greta), Caleb Ryan Painter (Keisha) and Sarah Caroline Cochran (Jacob); six step-grandchildren, David Epley, Joseph Epley, Tommy Epley, Nadine Epley, Lisa Kelly Epley and Matthew Hudson.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 22, 2018, in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Philbeck and the Rev. Matthew Mills officiating.

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus with military rites conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral chapel.
