John Paul McIntyre, an educator and driving instructor at Polk County High School, was the guest speaker at the Aug. 2 meeting of the Rotary Club of Tryon.

McIntyre serves as director of the Unity Summer Enrichment Camp Club, held in Pea Ridge. Rotary Club of Tryon President Fred Hartley invited McIntyre to the meeting of the Rotary Club after visiting the camp of 50 students from both Polk and Rutherford counties.

McIntyre shared the mission of the camp, as well as some of the activities that the students enjoyed: guest speakers, STEM activities, educational field trips, group games, and making lip balm, tea, and soap using herbs from the garden planted by the students.

McIntyre was accompanied by his daughter, Paige, one of the volunteers at the camp, and his son, Patrick, one of the campers who entertained the club members with details of some of his experiences at the two-week camp.

The camp was sponsored by the Unity in the Community Organization, and funded by a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation.
