William “Bill” Moore Jackson

William “Bill” Moore Jackson, 75, formally of Tryon, North Carolina, died Sunday, July 22, 2018.

He was born in Gainsville, Florida on April 10, 1943, to the late Rev. W.H.R. Jackson and Vertie Moore Jackson.

In addition, Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Ross Jackson.

He grew up in Raleigh, where his father, an Episcopalian minister, was a chaplain at Central Prison.

Bill graduated from Brougton High School and went on to attend art school in Atlanta and at Pfeiffer College, earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.

Later, Bill moved to Tryon, an arts and crafts community nestled in the mountains south of Asheville. There, he met and married his beloved late wife, Jan Ashmore Jackson, who was also an artist and potter.

Bill worked as a commercial artist and designed patterns for furniture upholstery.

Surviving are many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Dr. Helen Svoboda-Barber and the Rev. Dr. Jeanine Driscoll. The burial will be private.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Maxine and Mark Galloway, as well as to his caregivers, Laura Beth McFalls and Danielle Belcher, for the final years of his life.
