Sylvia Ann DeCotiis, 81, died on Thursday, June 28, 2018, in Columbus, North Carolina, from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Albert Jamack and Germina Cantillo Jamack.

She graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer, Massachusetts, in 1956, and went on to successfully complete stenographer training and pursue a secretarial career, ending with retirement from the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, North Carolina, in January 2002.

She was a member of the Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur; sons, Michael Norman of Webster, Massachusetts, David Norman of Woodbridge, Virgina, and Arthur DeCotiis of Mill Spring, North Carolina; and daughter, Robin Healey of Warren, Massachusetts. Her sister, Patricia Bandman, resides in Anahola, Hawaii; and brother, Ronald Jamack, in Spencer, Massachusetts. She leaves 14 grandchildren.

A Catholic Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, North Carolina, on Monday, July 2, 2018.

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday July 1, 2018, at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, with a rosary at 6 p.m.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials are made to Memory Care, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803, or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 374 Hudlow Road, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
