Former Congressman William Martin Hendon died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City, North Carolina, after a long illness.

He was the son of the late John William Hendon and Mary Adams Hendon, and brother of the late George Ward Hendon.

He is survived by his daughters, Carrie O’Neil and Jennie Porter; and five grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
