St. Luke’s Foundation seeking funding for new vein visualization technology

St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation has launched its first annual spring/summer appeal by asking for community support in raising funds to purchase the AccuVein vein visualization device.
AccuVein uses vein visualization technology that will aid St. Luke’s Hospital’s phlebotomists in drawing blood from hard to stick patients by illuminating the patient’s veins.
AccuVein works for all ages, skin types and body differences. It allows the phlebotomist to see the illuminated veins, therefore reducing anxiety, pain and delays in patient care. The handheld, noncontact vein illumination system painlessly displays a real-time visual of the peripheral veins.
“If you have invisible veins or experience difficulty with blood draws, this could have a major positive impact on your future experiences having blood drawn at St. Luke’s Hospital,” said Laboratory Director Jody Flynn. “Patients could greatly benefit from this advanced technology.”
Community members may contribute towards the purchase of the AccuVein or can give an unrestricted gift, meaning the foundation will apply the funds where they are needed most.
People may contact St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation at 828-894-2693 for any questions or to make a donation over the phone. People may also visit SLHFoundation.org to make a donation, or mail gifts to 89 W. Mills St., Suite B, Columbus, NC 28722.
