Summer enrichment camp for area youth to begin Monday

The Unity in the Community Organization will host its annual Summer Enrichment Camp beginning Monday with a kickoff ceremony at the Tryon International Equestrian Center at 10 am.

Ted Phaeton, an area newscaster, will be the featured guest. Lunch will follow the kickoff ceremony at the G. Riddle Fellowship Hall at the Zion Grove A.M.E. Zion Church.

The camp will continue through Friday, June 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The second week of camp will be July 23-27.

The camp for both weeks will be held at the Zion Grove Church’s Educational Wing, 5620 Pea Ridge Road, Rutherfordton (Green Creek).

Polk County and Landrum area youth between ages 8-16 are encouraged attend the two weeks’ worth of activities. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be served.

Polk County High School’s Curriculum Support and Driver Education Teacher John P. McIntyre will serve as the camp’s director.

All activities are free.  Registration will continue throughout the week, with limited space available on a first-come, first- serve basis.

The Summer Enrichment Camp is funded by a recent grant awarded to the Unity in the Community organization from the unrestricted grants fund of the Polk County Community Foundation, for the purpose of serving the area youth, as well as a program for area senior citizens, Technology for Seniors, coming fall 2018.
