Summer reading program kicks off with a sock hop June 12

On Tuesday, June 12, the 2018 Summer Reading Program“Libraries Rock” will kick off with a Sock Hop at the Polk County Public Library in Columbus.

Those interested in attending are asked to dress in poodle skirts and leather jackets. From 5:30-6 p.m., guests may learn traditional dances from the 1950s with instructors from Blue Ridge Dance Lab.

At 6 p.m., partiers can dance the night away with music provided by Elvis tribute artist, Chris Bishop, and his blue suede shoes.

There will be a ‘50s costume contest, root beer floats, Twister, hopscotch, a limbo contest, vinyl record crafts, a Jell-O recipe potluck and opportunities to learn more about the 2018 Summer Reading Program.
