After consultation with the North Carolina Deptartment of Transportation, the North Carolina Geological Survey and public safety partners, the Polk County government is closing the public shelter at Polk County Middle School that was set up during the storms.

Polk County officials have also lifted their call for voluntary residential evacuations, and people can return to their homes. Everyone is encouraged to use caution on all roads. Some roads are still closed except to local traffic.

Residents should be careful as they return to their homes and should pay attention for any hazardous condition warnings from local media or emergency management.
