TRYON — The Tryon Riding & Hunt Club has not yet said they will change the location for the upcoming Carter Brown Memorial Barbecue next Wednesday.

The barbecue will kick off TR&HC’s 90th Annual Charity Horse Show at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

As of now, the barbecue is scheduled to take place Wednesday, June 6, in the cabin at Harmon Field. Though there was some flooding at Harmon Field last week, officials said there was little damage to any of the buildings.

However, with more rains coming, the Tryon Daily Bulletin will keep readers informed.

The barbecue kicks off at 6 p.m. with a buffet dinner, similar to the menu served at the event Carter Brown attended 90 years ago. Organizers will also serve beer, wine and nonalcoholic beverages.

All proceeds will go to support the Harmon Field horse program. To purchase tickets, call TR&HC at 828-863-0480.

TR&HC is also hosting some informative talks about World Equestrian Games and what people can expect. Sunday at 3 p.m., journalist, United States Equestrian Federation senior dressage judge and Fédération Equestre Internationale level competitor Margaret Freeman will lead a discussion of the eight disciplines comprising the upcoming WEG.

“We had the first of the two WEG talks [May 24] at Tryon Fine Arts Center,” said TR&HC president Andrew Brannon. “There were about 35 attendees, which we felt was a pretty good turnout.”

Brannon said the talks are to help educate, inform and help create an overall enjoyment of the games for all members of the community, whether they are avid riders or interested spectators.

The event is free to the public, but reservations are requested. Those wishing to attend are asked to call TFAC at 828-859-8322 or visit tryonarts.org.

The 2018 Carolinas Show Hunter Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be June 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Legends Club at TIEC. This year’s horses are Caped Crusader, Gershwin and Patriot’s Way. Happy Hour and Que Sera will receive the Elma Garcia award given to horses that competed in the Adult Amateur Hunter and/or Children’s Hunter divisions.

The 2018 horseman/horsewoman inductees are Maryann Charles and Pat Dodson. National Show Hunter Hall of Fame inductees Patty Heuckeroth and Gozzi will also be inducted to the Carolinas Show Hunter Hall of Fame. National Show Hunter Hall of Fame inductee J. Arthur “Bucky” Reynolds II was eligible for induction this year, however, his family requested he be inducted in 2019.

Those wishing to attend the induction ceremony are asked to call 843-601-4191, email megsproperties@gmail.com or visit www.carolinashowhunterhallofFame.com in order to RSVP by Friday.
