Gilbert “Gil” James Denton, 90, of Tryon Estates, Columbus died May 19, 2018.

Born on Sept. 9, 1927, in Zebulon, Wake County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Jonie William Denton and Addie Delphia Brantley Denton. He attended the University of Buffalo for a Bachelor’s degree in 1950 and attended the University of Buffalo law school for a Law Degree in 1953. In 1985, after 23 years of service, he retired as a banking officer from the Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company, Buffalo, New York. 

He moved to Holly Hill Drive in Columbus in 1987 and in May of 2002 relocated to Tryon Estates, a retirement community in Columbus.

He was a lifetime Mason, holding memberships in Blue Lodge (Emulation Lodge # 1022, Buffalo), Consistory (Valley of Buffalo) and Shrine (Oasis Temple, Charlotte, North Carolina). He was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann E. Havens Denton; one son, Keith D. Denton of Syracuse, New York; one daughter, Sarah Denton Parker of Phoenix; one grandson, Tyler G. Parker; and one granddaughter, Sierra E. Parker both of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The family plot is located in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo.

A private interment service will be at the Tryon Estates Memorial Garden Columbarium.
