Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry has received a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation to hire two local high school students as interns for the summer.

“We’re very grateful to the Community Foundation for providing the funding to help us hire interns again this year,” said George Alley, Outreach’s executive director. “We believe that the student interns will gain valuable work experience and have the chance to help our neighbors in need.”

The interns will support the client services manager in all aspects of client services, as well as prepare for the annual school supply drive and distribution. Duties will include helping organize and publicize a health fair on the day of the distribution, and communicating and coordinating with vendors.

The successful applicants must have experience with Microsoft Office.

Interns will also work outdoors and in the pantry, helping to stock shelves, monitor inventory, and be involved with all aspects of facility management.

This position requires a moderate level of physical activity and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The internships will begin on June 18 and will continue through Aug. 10.

In order to comply with the grant requirements, students must be enrolled in high school or a similar home-school program at the time of the start of the internship. Students must also be at least 16 years old and reside in Polk County or Landrum (ZIP code 29356).
