Blossoming to life

Visitors to downtown Tryon will notice an extra splash of springtime color outside many storefronts, thanks to the efforts of the Tryon Downtown Development Association and a number of dedicated green thumbs. On Friday, volunteers from the Tryon, Green Blades and Daffy Jill’s garden clubs teamed up with members of the Polk County High School FFA to plant 1,000 red and white vincas, red New Guinea Impatiens and green Carex grasses — which the students had been growing in their greenhouse since October — at the Vines of Tryon parking lot. The arrangements — created to resemble Morris the Horse’s signature red and white color scheme — will be placed in 45 planters downtown by town crews, and will be on display through fall.
