PCHS senior receives scholarship from state Daughters of the American Revolution

Polk County High School senior Savannah Edwards was recently awarded with the North Carolina Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s Cordon Street Endowment Scholarship, during a ceremony that took place Durham, North Carolina, on April 28.

Edwards is sponsored by the DAR Abraham Kuykendall Chapter in Flat Rock, North Carolina. She has a 4.7 GPA, and plans to attend Appalachian State University in the fall, where she will major in archaeology and American history. 

Edwards is a Science Olympiad seven-time medal winner, and plays the flute in the PCHS Marching Band. She is a dedicated volunteer at the Polk County Historical Association and the Polk County Public Library.

Her passion is American history, and she plans to join the Daughters of the American Revolution through her ancestor, John Overmire. 

“Savannah is one of the top five most naturally brilliant students who I have taught in a 25-year teaching career,” said Edwards’ AP History teacher, Dawn Forward.
