Jack Cogill Burgess, 91, formerly from Landrum, South Carolina, died on Friday, April 27, 2018, at Tryon Estates from congestive heart failure.

Cogill was born in Greer, South Carolina, and was raised in Gaffney, South Carolina, and was the only child of Delia Burgess Hicks and Roy Durham Hicks.

He graduated from Limestone College, Parsons School of Design, and the New York School of Interior Design, and was a longtime member of the American Society of Interior Designers. Throughout his career, Cogill was involved with many major projects (The White House, Architectural Digest, etc.) and designed furniture for many furniture lines and nationally known clients.

Additionally, he operated a successful antique store that was located on Howard Street (Antique Row) in Baltimore, before retiring to the Tryon area in 1988.

Cogill was preceded in death by his mother and father; his stepfather, A. C. Phillips; and his life partner, John Rugieri.

A memorial service will be held on June 2, 2018, at 2 p.m., at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Tryon, North Carolina. Guests will be received in the fellowship hall of the church following the service.
