Polk County Middle’s track team could not have asked for a better afternoon Tuesday for its lone home meet of the season.

The Wolverines hosted five Blue Ridge Conference schools at G.M. Tennant Stadium on a picture-perfect April day. Polk Middle placed fourth in the girls competition, won by Rugby, and fifth in the boys competition, won by Apple Valley.

The day had its individual highlights for the Wolverines. Olivia Overholt won the 800 (2:38.10) and 1600 meters (5:38.80) and ran the anchor leg for the winning 4×400-meter relay team, making up a five-second gap to help Polk win by almost four seconds.

The Polk boys 4×400-meter relay team also emerged the winner, posting a sparkling time of 3:58.70 to win by almost 20 seconds.

The lead for that relay team, Dakota Twitty, also won the triple jump with a mark of 35-0.

Braxton Edwards added a third in the long jump and Harrison Waddell placed third in the discus for the Wolverines.

Polk Middle will close its season on Tuesday at North Henderson in the Blue Ridge Conference meet.
